Furniture and objects do more than float aimlessly in a space; they serve as an anchor, finding a quiet center in a turbulent world. Refined materials, thoughtful functions, and restrained forms all stem from the desire for the user to find a state of complete serenity within their space. This is the very 'attitude' of objects that viepis designs. The work of viepis aims to bring a quiet order and dignity to a space, leaving a deep and tranquil resonance in the user's daily life.

About the studio

viepis는 디자이너 최도영과 채찬이 이끄는 크리에이티브 스튜디오이다. 두 사람은 사물에 내제된 고유한 가치를 발견하고 그에 맞는 형태를 부여하기 위해, 특정 재료나 방식에 얽매이지 않고 전통과 현대의 경계를 넘나드는 접근 방식을 취한다. 목재, 금속, 플라스틱과 같은 다양한 소재를 탐구하며, 3D 모델링 및 CNC 가공과 같은 현대 기술의 정밀함에 오랜 시간 다듬어진 공예의 지혜를 더한다. 이러한 기술과 공예의 융합은 각 오브제가 가진 '태도'를 가장 완벽한 형태로 빚어내고, viepis가 추구하는 '평온의 상태'를 완성하는 기반이 된다.

viepis is a creative studio led by designers Choi Doyoung and Chae Chan. The duo takes an approach that transcends the boundaries of tradition and modernity to discover the intrinsic value latent in an object and give it the right form. They explore various materials such as wood, metal, and plastic, and combine the precision of modern technologies like 3D modeling and CNC machining with the profound wisdom of traditional craft. This fusion of technology and craftsmanship is the foundation for shaping the unique 'attitude' of each object and perfecting the state of 'peace' that viepis pursues.

Designer

디자이너 최도영은 계원예술대학교에서 가구디자인을 전공하며 재료와 구조에 대한 이해를 다졌다. 졸업 후 워크숍에이치, 포워크를 거치며 다년간 실무 경험을 쌓아 전문성을 키웠고, 오랜 준비 끝에 자신만의 디자인 철학을 담아 viepis를 설립했다. 최도영은 스스로를 디자이너-메이커(Designer-Maker)로 정의한다. 추상적인 아이디어가 정교한 설계를 거쳐 손으로 만질 수 있는 형태로 완성되기까지, 그 모든 과정을 직접 경험하고 아우르는 것에서 가장 큰 즐거움을 느끼기 때문이다. 그는 이처럼 만드는 이의 즐거움이 깃든 사물만이, 사용하는 이의 곁에서 오래도록 좋은 관계를 맺을 수 있다고 믿는다.

Designer Choi Doyoung studied furniture design at Kaywon University of Art and Design, building a foundational understanding of materials and structure. After graduating, he honed his expertise through years of practical experience at WORKSHOPH and 4WORK, eventually founding viepis to embody his own design philosophy. Choi defines himself as a Designer-Maker. This is because he finds the greatest joy in embracing and controlling the entire process—from an abstract idea taking shape through precise design to its completion into a tangible form. He believes that only an object imbued with the creator's joy can form a lasting, meaningful relationship by the user's side.
